Because of the farm blood that the Webb's have racing through their viens, we as a family, decided we would buy some steers, fatten them up so that we can have a years supply of beef in our freezers. So this is where the 'pie hits the road' sort of speak. Each of our cows have a name and a distinct personality! The picture below shows all three of them. From left, T-bone, Rump-roast and Tri-tip. They are waiting for the grain that has molasse in it. Yummy!!

Dax and Easton filling the water tank up so they can take it down to the cows.

Rump roast is sitting and T-bone is standing. T-bone is definetely the most calm, sweetest disposition (at least for a cow with horns that is). Rump roast has a few self-esteem issues. He has a unique look about him, which causes him to be shy and reserved. He is last to come and eat.

Now here is the bully of the cows, Tri-tip!! He has to prove his manhood because, I mean, look at him. HE HAS EARRINGS IN!!! He looks like Minnie Pearl, or Yoda with earrings. My land, he is aggressive with the other two and seeks to show them who is boss. When Scott and I were feeding them the other night he told me about Tri-tip and it made me mad so I said, "if he pushes the other two away from the grain, let me have a pitch-fork and I'll show him and thing or two." Scott thought that was funny. But truly, when you have been around livestock, (we raised a few lambs, pigs and a cow or two when I was young), you don't put up with bullies. Anyway, whatever we had in our hand, whether it was a pitch fork or a 2x4, you smacked them on the head to let them know whose boss. I guess that would be steer abuse nowadays. :)

Well, we will keep y'all updated with the raising of our cows. In the meantime.....I'm an old cow-hand.....from the Rio Grande....etc, etc. etc.

Hilarious! I need to see these cows in person sometime. Is it normal I'm a part cow owner and have not physically seen said cow?
That sounds like so much fun. I just threw out the same idea about cows to a few of my sister and well, we are thinking it over! Lots of work, lots of beef and loads to learn:)
This post makes me laugh! I'm not so sure I could eat beef after I've named and fed the cows myself :)
