What Is This?

Nick, bless his heart, decided I needed a night out to a fancy restaurant. He made reservations at Log Haven, which is up Millcreek Canyon. I dolled myself up (I was a completely different woman, you should have seen me!), and away we went. There was valet parking and we took advantage of that (which is uncharacteristic of us). We get seated and looked over the menus. The waiter comes and takes our orders and gives us a little special treat the chef made for us. It was steak wrapped around I don't know what, but it tasted really good. He came back with our Italian ice and took our orders. We ordered the entree (fancy word for main course, LOL) and Nick ordered a lamb chop appetizer and I ordered calamari as an appetizer. I have tasted calamari before, cut up and fried in a delicious batter, but this time this is what I got: I didn't realize calamari was squid!! When the waiter brought it, Nick got a kick out of the look on my face. How could this be? There were 8 little baby squids with their little tenticles all over the place! I tell you, it looked just like the picture above, only in some tomato sauce with garbonzo beans (I think it was garbonzo beans, maybe that was some exotic animal as well). Those little suckers (pun intended here) were swimming in the great blue ocean, like, three days ago. Their mothers are probably still looking for them. I closed my eyes and ate one with lots of sauce and the possible garbonzo beans. The only reason I ate that much was because I knew how much it cost!! Nick thought the whole evening was worth just that little experience with the calamari. I tried to explain to him, how would he feel if his lamb chops came out with their little legs sticking straight up in the air with a little bit of wool for effect? You know, if they would actually say what calamari is on the menu, we could have avoided all this, and saved some money at the same time, but nooooo, heaven forbid we actually know what we are eating. The rest of the evening was really neat, and we did have a great time. Maybe next time I will order escargot!!

That is funny. Your brave to even taste it. It looks nasty.

Miriam..oh you crack me up. I wish you lived closer to me so I could get a daily dose of Miriam stories. That story almost made me pee my pants.

I'm all about the breading and a little oil! I can't get the picture of the lamb chop out of my head with the legs sticking out...I'm not sure I'll be ordering those for a while. What a fun night for the two of you and it's always nice to add a little humor. I'm already looking forward to the story about the escargot!

Dang it all, Mr Webb, where was your camera phone? I think we would have all appreciated a photo of Miriam's face. Too funny!

Not as funny as your Brad Pitt dream, but close. Way close.

You are so adorably naive, I love it! What a great story! We need to go to lunch - no calamari or escargot! I miss seeing you!
